Reduce Photo, Signature & PDF Size for Online Application Forms

Job, exam, passport and government portals demand photos under 50 KB, signatures under 20 KB and PDFs under 100–500 KB. Here's how to hit those limits free on your phone.

Tools used in this guide

Application portals for exams, jobs, scholarships, passports and banking are strict: a photo or document even 1 KB over the limit is rejected. These steps work on any phone or computer, and your documents never leave your device.

Photo under 50 KB (or 20 KB signature)

  1. Open Resize Image and set the size the form asks for (e.g. 200 × 230 px for many exam photos, 140 × 60 px for signatures). If no size is given, use a width of about 600 px.
  2. Then open Compress Image, choose JPG and tap 50 KB (or 20 KB). The tool finds the highest quality that fits.
  3. Check the result size shown on screen before uploading.

PDF under 100 KB / 200 KB / 500 KB

  1. Scanned your documents with a phone? Combine the photos with Image to PDF (A4, 10 mm margin).
  2. Open Compress PDF. Use Medium for 2–3 pages, Strong or Extreme to get under 100 KB.
  3. Still too big? Split it and upload the parts separately, or remove blank pages with Delete pages.

Common requirements

ItemTypical limitTip
Passport-style photo20–50 KB, JPGWhite background, face 70–80% of height
Signature10–20 KB, JPGBlack ink on white paper, crop tightly
Certificates (PDF)100–500 KBCompress Medium, 1 page per certificate

Why HEIC photos fail

iPhone photos are HEIC, which most portals reject. Convert them with HEIC to JPG first.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression make the photo blurry?
Only if the limit is very small for the size. Reduce the pixel dimensions first, then compress. That keeps faces sharp.
Are my ID documents safe?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded to our server.
