How to use the Create ZIP

Keep ZIP, pick a compression level and optionally set a password.

Which compression level?

Normal is the best balance. Photos, videos, MP3s and PDFs are already compressed, so for those choose Store or Fast. It's much quicker and the size difference is tiny. Text, code, spreadsheets and RAW/BMP images shrink a lot with Maximum or Ultra.

ZIP passwords that are actually secure

Classic ZIP encryption (ZipCrypto) can be cracked in minutes. When you set a password here we use AES-256, which opens in 7-Zip, WinRAR, macOS Archive Utility alternatives and the iPhone Files app. File names stay visible in ZIP. Choose 7Z with “Encrypt file names” to hide them too.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit. Your browser does the work, so a few GB works on computers. Phones handle a few hundred MB.

Can I zip a whole folder?

Yes. Use Add a folder, or drag a folder onto the box on a computer. The folder structure is kept.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly.
