Fast mode: no re-encoding when it isn't needed

Changing MKV to MP4 or MOV to MP4 usually doesn't need re-encoding, because the video inside is already H.264 or HEVC. In Smart quality mode the converter detects this and remuxes the file in seconds with no quality loss. Pick High, Balanced or Small to force a fresh encode, which you need when changing resolution or making the file smaller.

Plays everywhere: picking the right video format

    • MP4 (H.264 + AAC) — the universal choice for iPhone, Android, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, TVs and browsers.
    • MOV — for iMovie and Final Cut on Mac.
    • MKV — keeps any codec; great for archiving.
    • WEBM — for websites and HTML5 players.
    • AVI / WMV / MPG — for older Windows software, DVD players and smart TVs.
    • 3GP — tiny files for old keypad phones.

    Frequently asked questions

Why is my iPhone video not playing on Windows or Android?
Recent iPhones record in HEVC (H.265). Convert it to MP4 with any quality other than Smart — the video is re-encoded to H.264, which plays everywhere.
How long does a conversion take?
Fast-copy jobs finish in seconds. Full re-encoding runs on your device's processor, roughly 0.5–2× real time on a modern laptop and slower on phones. Lower resolutions convert much faster.
    Can I convert 4K video?
Yes, but re-encoding 4K in a browser is slow. For speed, choose 1080p or 720p in Advanced options.
    Is it safe?
Yes. Your video is processed locally. We never see, store or upload it.
