How to Resize Video for Reels, Shorts and TikTok
Turn landscape or square videos into vertical 9:16 1080×1920 for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok and WhatsApp Status — crop or fit, free and private.
Tools used in this guide
Short-video apps all use the same canvas: vertical 9:16, ideally 1080 × 1920 pixels. Upload a 16:9 landscape clip and the app either zooms in awkwardly or adds blurry bars. Prepare it yourself and you control the result.
Specs at a glance
| Platform | Ratio | Resolution | Max length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1080×1920 | 3 min |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16 | 1080×1920 | 3 min |
| TikTok | 9:16 | 1080×1920 | 10 min (upload) |
| WhatsApp Status | 9:16 | 720×1280 is enough | 60 s |
| Instagram feed | 4:5 or 1:1 | 1080×1350 / 1080×1080 | — |
Steps
- Open Resize & Crop Video and choose your clip.
- Tap the Reels / Shorts preset (9:16, 1080p, crop).
- Choose Crop to fill the screen (sides are trimmed) or Fit to keep the whole picture with black bars.
- Convert and upload.
Crop or fit?
Crop works when the subject is in the centre: talking heads, products, single performers. Fit is better for wide shots, slides and text where the edges matter. Add captions in the app above and below the bars.
Pro tips
- Trim to the best 15–30 seconds first. Completion rate drives reach.
- Keep text away from the bottom 20%, where app buttons cover it.
- Upload at 1080p. Uploading a 720p file makes the platform upscale it and it looks softer.
