    GZ: GZ is a single file compressed with gzip. Web servers, logs and databases use it heavily. Unlike ZIP, it holds only one file.

    TAR.XZ: TAR.XZ is a TAR archive compressed with xz (LZMA2), giving the best compression of the TAR family. Linux kernels and distributions use it.
